Stay in your seat while the bus is moving
For your safety and the safety of everyone around you.
Manage yourself and your space on the bus
Keep items in your bag and pick them up after yourself.
Act like you are in the classroom
The exact same rules, expectations, and consequences apply on the bus.
Remain inside the bus at all times
This means hands, feet, heads, and any possessions – to keep everyone safe.
Treat other people and property with respect
Your driver is working hard to get you to and from school safely, other students deserve to be treated the same way you want to be treated, the bus belongs to all students, and you share a bus stop with a neighborhood. Act like it.
If your students have questions about bus safety, encourage them to ask their driver, teachers, counselors or principals. If your student encounters bullying on a bus, in any way, they should tell an adult at school and an adult at home.
Continuing Training and Education:
School Bus Inc. (SBI) has a comprehensive, ongoing training program for new and returning drivers. Prior to each school year SBI provides two days of training for all drivers. This is followed by monthly safety meetings. Driver training covers many topics including defensive driving, student management and emergency procedures. Using a combination of web-based training, on the road training and parking lot training, SBI has developed a new driver program that assists individuals to obtain their CDL that exceeds all FMCSA regulations. SBI partners with Sioux Falls School District in training drivers and bus aides to understand the special needs of students with disabilities and Pre-K students.
Professional Associations:
School Bus Inc. is a member of the National School Transportation Association, the National Association of Pupil Transportation and the South Dakota Student Transportation.
Why are School Buses Safe?
Safety features including the color and size of school buses, height, reinforced sides, flashing red lights, cross-view mirrors, and crossing and stop sign arms ensure children are protected and secure on and off the bus. The compartmentalization of areas also protects their safety. In this modern age we incorporate technology to maximize student and driver safety by encouraging positive driver behaviors. All buses have camera systems installed to promote student safety. Every bus is inspected by a certified DOT inspector and checked by a South Dakota Highway Patrol inspector.
